The client

Established by Joseph Rhodes in 1824, Group Rhodes has built an excellent reputation over the years for the design, manufacture and supply of specialised machinery to a wide range of industries and sectors, including for metalforming, clayworking, material handling, recycling and waste management.

As one of Europe’s largest original equipment manufacturers in its field, the company operates across two sites in Wakefield, offering over 50,000 sq. ft. of production facilities.

The challenge

In 2017, Group Rhodes brought Citi Group on board to help with the company’s relocation to a new factory facility in Wakefield.

“We’d had the pleasure of working alongside Nick and the team at Citi Group previously on some very high profile projects all over the world, and in fact had built up a really good relationship over ten years or so of working together, so when it came to employing a team to complete the electrical set-up at our new site, getting in touch with Citi Group was really a no-brainer,” says Group Rhodes Operations Director, James Gascoigne.

“The new site had absolutely no distribution set-up whatsoever at the time, so the Citi Group team had quite a challenge on their hands, but we trusted them to get the job done and they delivered.”

The solution

“The Citi Group team devised a complete solution for the electrical distribution to our site. Their engineers wired up the entire plant, including our machine shop. They also installed a power supply for our ovens, as well as installing all the lighting and power sockets, and setting up the ethernet networking for us.

“Around the same time, we had also won a big contract with Boeing and we were required to supply two specialist machines to one of their production facilities in Seattle, Washington, USA, for the manufacture of critical components. The team at Citi Group supported us throughout the process, managing and installing the panel systems and then remaining on-site with us as the machine was tested in the presence of Boeing engineers. The machines were then shipped to the USA, where Citi Group engineers were waiting and coordinated the electrical rebuild and installation of both machines in the Seattle Boeing facility.”

The result

“Citi Group supported us in our move to our new site, and helped to ensure it was as seamless as possible. The work was completed efficiently, on time and within budget, and we were up and running in line with our schedule, which enabled us to ensure our own customers continued to receive the support and services they needed from us.

“They went above and beyond for our work with Boeing, and it was an absolute pleasure to work alongside them for that contract.

“The whole Citi Group team has an incredible work ethic, and they’re all very good at what they do. The team is professional when on site, and they all work hard and put the hours in to ensure the job gets done. They’re a strong, reliable team who have recently been expanding their capabilities and services, making them a valuable business connection.

“The communication and level of service we receive from them every time we work together has always been second to none, and I’d highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality electrical engineering services.”
