What is an Industrial Electrical Design engineer?

Electrical design is the design of various electrical systems – and entails the planning, creating, testing or supervising the development and installation of electrical equipment. This could include anything from lighting equipment to GPS navigation systems, power distribution systems, fire and life safety systems and voice and data communications infrastructure. Whether big or small – if electricity is used, it will have been designed by electric design engineers.

What does an electrical design engineer do?

  • Conduct initial surveys – Our team of expert Industrial Electrical Design engineers will conduct a survey of your existing facilities and system. We assess potential issues to address or consider during design and construction.
  • Provide preliminary drawings and plans – We’ll draft preliminary schematic drawings of electrical systems. This is complete with wiring diagrams and floor plans to show where electrical outlets will be placed within a premises.
  • Carry out accurate calculations – We’re able to provide the most effective design and plans for projects because we conduct highly detailed calculations and checks in order to fully assess how we can make your project the best it can be.
  • Work with architects, engineers and contractors – When necessary, we’ll work closely with other contractors on your project to ensure that the design meets all applicable electrical codes and regulations.
  • Make recommendations – At Citi Group, we will always strive to provide recommendations on materials and equipment that are based on cost, quality and availability.
  • Create highly detailed, schematic designs – We’ll create detailed designs of electrical systems, such as lighting, transformers, switches, motors, fuses, breakers and wiring – bringing your vision to life.

So, why exactly do you need an industrial electrical design engineer?

We make things happen

Have you ever had a brilliant idea or vision for your business but not known where to begin with the project? That’s where electrical design engineers come in. Whilst the initial idea for a project may have emanated from a boardroom meeting or a sales or marketing department, it is the role of industrial electrical design engineers to take the concept off the paper and into a tangible, working product.

Every project is bespoke for you

With years worth of experience in creating bespoke and innovative electrical design solutions, we understand that each project is unique. By working closely alongside you to determine the requirements and scope of your project, we are able to create tailored designs, complete with detailed schematic drawings. This provides you with the most effective and efficient solution for your project.

What Qualifications Do Electrical Design Engineers Need?

It simply isn’t worth the risk of taking risks when it comes to electrical design and engineering. With extensive knowledge and a wealth of experience, we pride ourselves on our collection of highly regarded accreditations. These accreditations demonstrate our commitment to providing the highest quality work and our dedication to safety.

  • NICEIC Approved Contractors –  As an NICEIC Approved Contractor, we are assessed to the highest standards, covering all types of electrical contracting and installation.
  • Electrical Contractors Association member – We are proud members of the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA). We remain committed to maintaining and delivering the highest standards of excellence in electrotechnical and engineering services, as required by the association.
  • SOCOTEC partner – We are partnered with SOCOTEC, the UK’s leading health and safety consultation service. This demonstrates our ability to remain at the forefront of establishing and maintaining excellent health and safety standards within our industry.

What electrical engineers design:

Electrical design engineers design a wide variety of electrical systems and components. This includes everything from power distribution networks, lighting systems and control panels to complex electronic devices, communication systems and embedded systems. The role of an electrical design engineer is complex and sees them developing circuit designs, optimising electric layouts and ensuring everything complies with regulatory standards. Essentially, whenever electricity is used, you can be assured that an electrical design engineer designed it.

What is the difference between an electrical engineer and an electrical designer?

An electrical engineer typically holds a degree in electrical engineering and is responsible for designing, analysing, and overseeing electrical systems and components. They focus on complex problem-solving, system integration, and innovation. In contrast, an electrical designer often has a more focused role, working under the guidance of an engineer. They translate engineering concepts into detailed drawings and plans, ensuring that designs are practical and meet code requirements. While engineers handle the conceptual and theoretical aspects, designers concentrate on the technical execution and documentation.
