What is an EICR test?
EICR tests FAQs
21st November 2022
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) involves examining the electrics of a property to determine their condition. The report gathered will check for defects, deterioration and damage that may be considered dangerous.
In order to ensure the safety of occupants and employees, all electrical installations within domestic, commercial, and industrial properties must comply with regulated standards. Here at Citi Group, each of our electrical engineers can provide you with a comprehensive and accurate EICR test, to ensure your property conforms to the required safety standards.
An EICR test will work to establish:
We will look at all of the fixed electrical parts of your property. In addition to looking at the wiring, the outlet sockets, the light fittings, and the consumer units, we’ll also check the permanently connected items, such as extractors and showers. An EICR test will not cover non-fixed electrical appliances such as computers, projectors or televisions.
The frequency at which you’ll need an EICR test will vary depending on the type of property you have. For non-industrial settings, they are only required once every five years.
However, for industrial operations, EICR testing is required every three years. This is because industrial establishments typically use electricity at a much greater intensity and are often likely to involve dust, moisture or extreme temperatures.
During an Electrical Installation Condition Report, you may receive one of the following classifications to indicate what is required of you next…
Code 1 (C1) – Danger present and risk of Injury (unsatisfactory)
C1 indicates there are immediate risks within your system. At Citi Group, we will attempt to remedy these risks before we leave and will always attempt to make these safe before leaving your property. However, if we are unable to do so, you will be advised not to use any electrics until these problems have been resolved.
Code 2 (C2) – Potentially dangerous (unsatisfactory)
C2 indicates that while you may not need urgent repairs, remedial action should be taken as soon as you are able to do so. In these circumstances, we have assessed the situation thoroughly and established that you are able to continue using your electrical system in the meantime.
Code 3 (C3) – Improvement recommended (satisfactory)
C3 is deemed satisfactory. In these cases, there is no danger present, and there is no typical sequence of events that could cause someone to encounter harm whilst using your electrical system. No further remedial work is required.
Here at Citi Group, we aim to conduct all EICR tests with minimal disruption to your property. In return, you can be confident in the safety of your tenants or employers and in the property’s full compliance with all current regulations and the conditions of your insurance. We also assess electrical systems for energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness as part of our standard service.
